WPS School Council

Meet our new School Council for 2025 - 2026

Harvest

Thank you so much to all of our Willington families - your harvest donations will be collected by Swadlincote Food Bank and I am sure that they will be overwhelmed with your generosity.

Thank you also to the School Council class reps who helped sort through and bag up all of the donations!

Creative Copse

The children at WPS are very excited about our new Creative Copse area.

The money earned from our School Council Jolly Jam Jar stall, at the Summer Fair, has been spent on Tuff spots and tubs for an art area which the children can access during lunch times. Thank you so much to the children who have been collecting and bringing in conkers, pine cones and acorns - keep them coming!!

Teachers have also enjoyed using this area to enhance their art curriculum - the Year 4 children have created self portraits and the Year 5 children have explored Islamic art using natural materials.

Well-being Garden

Over the Summer, Mrs Lawrence has created a beautiful well-being garden. We have been very busy writing thank you letters to everyone who made donations.

Democracy Day

On the 15th September, Democracy Day, children gave speeches to their class if they wanted to be a school council class rep. That afternoon, every child had a voting slip and voted for their chosen class rep.

The votes were counted and winners were announced in assembly.

SCHOOL COUNCIL 2024 - 2025

Summer Fair - Jolly Jam Jars

The school council have raised an amazing £82.00 on their Jolly Jam Jar stall.

They have been fantastic, organising children to make the jars, creating posters, talking to classes, choosing the three winners and selling the jars at the Summer Fair. Of course, it was our treasurer's job to count the money!

Pond Opening

Thank you so much to our amazing WPS families for joining us at the pond opening. It was amazing to see so many people there. Colleen and Steve, from East Midlands Eco Gardening Fund, were very impressed with the wildlife area we have created. It was also great to have Matt and Brad back, who completed the works, to see the final outcome. The children are so excited to see our frog spawn!!!! Looking forward to frogs in the summer term!

Pond Opening Invitation

We are getting so excited!!!!

The school council reps have put together our invite / poster and then visited each class to talk about the grand opening!

We hope that lots of WPS families will join us to have a look at the new pond and wildlife area.

The theme is - Do Something Funny For Money!

The council have decided on a CRAZY HAIR day!
On this day please send your child into school with crazy hair - crazy styles or even wigs.

There will be a school assembly during Red Nose Day week, where the children will learn about why donating to Comic Relief is so important and how money raised over the years has helped people around the world.

UPDATE - we have raised £305.00 for Comic Relief!

This is amazing - thank you so much for your kind donations.

Our Pond!!

We are so thrilled with the work Matt and his team have done - the pond area is looking amazing.

Watch this space for our grand opening!

Children in Need

Thank you to our Year 6 School Council for selling Pudsey pens and badges - an amazing £195.00 has been raised for Children in Need.

The Pond Development

It's all getting really exciting now - the pond has been dug!

A safety fence, with a locked gate, has been built and the slabs are being laid over the half term holiday.

We have plants, safety signs, a rockery - we are getting so excited!

Some photos below for a sneak preview.

Harvest

Please could harvest donations be brought into school on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October.

The school council have decided to donate this year’s harvest collection to a food bank in Swadlincote. Many families in our local area access food donations from here.

The School Council have spoken to their classes about harvest donations and have displayed posters around school.

UPDATE - Thank you to our wonderful WPS families for their harvest donations - Swadlincote Foodbank were extremely thankful.

Trees

Thank you so much to Jack from Taylor - Day Tree Services.

The team were in school completing work and the school council asked if they would be able to cut back some of the trees surrounding the pond area.

We explained to Jack that our budget was tight to get the pond area finished and he agreed to complete the work free of charge!

It has made such a difference and now the light will reach our pond area to attract wildlife and plant growth.

We said a huge thank you!
