Week 6
Autumn Term 1 - Week 6:
The children have had another busy week in Year 6.
This week in maths, the children tackled the method of long division with determination and enthusiasm. After a week of dedicated practice, their confidence has soared! We wrapped up the week with a lively TTRockstar Day—everyone looked absolutely brilliant in their rockstar outfits. Year 6 also teamed up with Years 1 and 2 during their TTRS session, showing fantastic leadership and encouragement. It was heartwarming to see such supportive collaboration across year groups.
In science, the children explored how different beak shapes influence a bird’s ability to eat various types of food. Inspired by Charles Darwin’s research on Galápagos finches, they conducted a hands-on experiment using tweezers, scissors, spoons, and more to collect items like pasta, rice, pom poms, and raisins. The activity sparked curiosity and laughter!
For their fourth art lesson, the children delved into sculpture, drawing inspiration from Alberto Giacometti’s piece The Walking Man. Using sheets of aluminum foil, they crafted expressive figures, both human and animal. Another fun afternoon!
