Week 1 - A Visit from the Fire Service
This week, we had a visit from Louise from Derbyshire Fire Service. She talked to us about the important work that firefighters do and taught us all about fire safety. We learned that fire can be both good and bad, and we explored different sources of fire that could be dangerous. She taught us a little rhyme:
Matches and lighters should be:
Out of reach, out of sight, and out of harm.
Louise also talked to us about what to do in an emergency. We talked about the importance of having a fire plan at home and how to get out safely if there is ever a fire. To help us understand this even more, we watched a video featuring two dogs, Dexter and Freckle, who showed us how to stay safe.
We found out that grown-ups should test their smoke alarms every week, and we took home a letter to help our families create a fire plan together.
To finish off the session, we enjoyed a codebreaker and a colouring activity all about fire safety. It was a fun and informative visit, and we learned lots of important ways to keep ourselves safe.
