Week 1

Summer Term 1 - Week 1:

The children have returned from their Easter break and are now entering their final two half terms at Willington Primary School.

This week, the children began a new English topic based around the text 'Windrush Child'.  They discussed the history of the Windrush generation and what it might have been like for a child to arrive in England post World War 2 from Jamaica.  The children will be writing non-fiction texts based on this book over the next few weeks.

In history, the children  particularly enjoyed taking on the role as a member of a jury.  Using pieces of evidence, the children were tasked with deciding whether Mary Queen of Scots was guilty or not guilty of the murder of her second husband, Lord Darnley.  Out of the six different jurys, five of them found her not guilty.  The children learnt that it was important to use a variety of evidence to understand the full picture of historical events which have happened.
