Week 5

This half term, we have been reading 'Henry's Freedom Box' by Ellen Levine - a true story about a man who posted himself to freedom. The children have really enjoyed reading this book - they even got to experience what it would have been like for Henry Brown to have been inside a box...but we didn't make them do the full 27 hours!

We have finished the term by writing persuasive letters from Henry Brown to Harriet Tubman (an inspirational lady who helped many people escape slavery). The children took on the role of Henry and requested Harriet's assistance to help Henry and his family flee from Virginia to Pennsylvania - a state where slavery was illegal.
