At Willington Primary School, we aim to equip all pupils with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop competency in computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We use the Teach Computing scheme to support our teaching and learning. Teach Computing was developed by the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) and created by subject experts, using the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback. It is built around an innovative progression framework and provides high quality opportunities for children to engage with the computing curriculum.

The computing curriculum is split into three strands: 

• Computer Science: how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed.  

• Information Technology: the purposeful use of existing programs to develop products and solutions. 

• Digital Literacy: the skills, knowledge and understanding needed in order to participate fully and safely in an increasingly digital world.  

At Willington Primary School, we are fully committed to keeping our pupils safe and internet safety is embedded in their learning at school and across the curriculum.

We are proud to be part of the i-vengers;  a year-long peer-led digital leaders programme, funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire and Derbyshire County Council. It seeks to engage, educate and empower young explorers of digital technology and help them to make safer choices online. At WPS, we have eight i-vengers in KS2 who are tasked with helping children, parents, staff and the wider school community to gain a better understanding of how to stay safe online.
