Week 4

Week 4

This week the children competed in their very first Sports Day. All children competed in their teams and first completed a carousel of different activities such as penalty shoot out, javelin, beanbag throw, football slalom, basketball shoot etc. The children were then given the opportunity to compete in running races (if they wanted to). I was so proud of all the children - I saw some fantastic sportsmanship and team spirit. Very well done all!

On Wednesday, we also had a special visit from Commonwealth and Olympic Swimmer, Joe Roebuck - the children completed a circuit of sponsored exercises to raise lots of money for sport equipment for school. Joe also lead an assembly at the end of the day am he told us all about his career and his journey to compete at the London 2012 Olympics - it was very inspiring!

Phonics

This week we read words ending in -s that make an /s/ sound like sports, floats, starts and streets. Words ending in s that make a /z/ sound like crowds, groans, storms and spoons. Words ending in -es like dresses, screeches, splashes and crunches. And longer words like balloon, appear, portrait, person, frighten and perfect.

Our book of the week was...

Cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, mules sit on stools and gophers sit on sofas. But Frog does not want to sit on a log! we loved this silly, rhyming story!
