w.c. 9.1.22

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and wish you all a very happy New Year!

In Phonics, we have continued learning new aspects of Phase 5 (alternative ways to spell sounds that the children are already familiar with). Please find below a document showing some of the words we have been reading in class together. Reading these at home will help build both your child's confidence and phonics knowledge.

Please find below the spellings that will be tested on Friday 20th January, which all contain the digraph 'ou' (which make the /ow/ sound). Practising these at home will obviously help your child to feel more confident during the spelling test. I will send home a printed list of spellings with your child on a Friday in the home spelling book and they will be available on the class page, as well as being set on Spelling Shed. House points will be awarded based on your child's performance (both academic and personal achievements).

In Maths, we have been completing our unit of geometry learning, by thinking about 2D shapes and making patterns using 2D and 3D shapes. Perhaps your Fantastic Fox could make some repeating patterns using lego bricks, marbles etc.

Below are some games that your Fantastic Fox might enjoy:

In English, we thought about question sentences and what they need this week, in preparation for starting our new unit of writing next week. The children were really good at thinking of questions we could ask about a picture and then were such brilliant, brave writers when trying to use their phonics to record their ideas. They persevered when trying to write a question mark - fabulous work as always Fantastic Foxes! Below is the image we used, perhaps your child can remember the questions they thought of in class, or maybe they can think of some new ones using our question words of how, what, when, where, why, who.

Well done on a wonderful first week back Fantastic Foxes! I'm so proud of you all, you are working so hard!
