In Phonics, we are revisiting previous learning in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check which will take place next month. Please find below a document showing some of the words we have been reading in class together (I will also provide a paper copy when their reading book is changed). Reading this at home will help build both your child's confidence and phonics knowledge. Please record any extra reading like this in their reading diary and I can award house points.
Please find a link below to some fun phonics based online games that you might wish to play with your child over the coming weeks to help them get used to reading nonsense (alien) words, so that they can practise spotting digraphs/trigraphs and split vowel digraphs. You can select different Phases of Phonics, I would suggest focusing on Phase 4 and 5. There are three available to play for free, without needing to log in or subscribe - Buried Treasure, Dragon's Den and Picnic on Pluto.
Please find below the spellings that will be tested on Thursday 18th May, which contain the digraph /er/. Practicing these at home will obviously help your child to feel more confident during the spelling test. I will send home a printed list of spellings with your child on a Friday in their home spelling book and they will be available on the class page below, as well as being set on Spelling Shed. House points will be awarded based on your child's performance (both academic and personal achievements).
Our Treasured Text this week is Snow White and the Seven dwarfs. We had great fun discussing all the different versions that the children had shared at home.
In Maths, we have been learning about half and quarters. Perhaps you could practice this at home by sharing out sweets etc into 2 equal groups and then 4 equal groups.
