Week 4

Spring Term 2 - Week 4:

This week in English, the children have continued their work on Macbeth.  They began to draft their own character descriptions of Macbeth using precise language to describe Macbeth's characteristics.  These will be edited, improved and then written up as a published piece of work next week.

In maths, the children have been learning about how to calculate the area of two-dimensional shapes.  They used paper to prove that any triangle had an area which was half a rectangle, and that a parallelogram was also the same area as a rectangle too.

The children have continued their learning about Paul Nash in their art lessons.  They discussed how he used watercolour paints to create different effects in his work and experimented with colour washes to create different effects in their own sketch books.

The week ended with a question and answer session with our local MP, Mrs Heather Wheeler.  After the Year 6 school council members took her for a tour of the school, the whole class asked the MP questions about her job and about what happens in parliament each day.  The children asked some really interesting questions and they were a really enjoyed the opportunity to find out a little bit more about the process of democracy.
