The Dynamic Deers - Year 6
Welcome to The Dynamic Deers Year 6 webpage for 2021 - 2022.
Please click on the links below to find out information about our class and keep looking at this page to see images of what we have been up to in school.
We will continue to be using Class Dojo for messages to parents and regular photos of the children carrying out different activities within class.
As part of our work in Maths, we have been investigating and measuring angles. We used masking tape on the tables to draw lines and then wrote on the tables using our whiteboard pens, calculating the sizes of the angles. We noticed that opposite angles always were the same as each other, whilst angles in a triangle always totalled 180 degrees.
As part of our work in Computing, we have been learning about how to report online bullying on different apps. We created double page spreads based on our knowledge and understanding on this subject.
Yesterday afternoon, we looked at Ordnance Survey maps showing the Peak District. We learnt how to read six-figure grid references and then carried out a treasure hunt using the maps and a set of grid references. We had to use given grid references to find words on the map using a given clue for each one. We had lots of fun with this task and look forward to reading a map with our parents the next time we visit the Peak District ourselves!
Learning by Questions Grammar Quiz
We have been using the online tool of Learning by Questions to carry out our first grammar quiz of the year. We find this a fantastic tool to use as it is both interactive and helps us if we get the answer incorrect by giving us clues to help our learning.
Today, we have been learning how to carry out long division. We used our times table knowledge to create fact boxes to help us and then used these when solving the calculations. We have worked hard to understand the process and now really like this method of calculating!
As part of our Maths work this week, we have been exploring the relationships between different multiplication facts. We started on one fact then expanded this based on our understanding of doubling, halving, multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We really enjoyed this lesson and found that it has helped us to understand our multiplication facts more.
As part of the children's homework, they should be playing TTRockstars and Spelling Shed 4 times each week for about 10 minutes on each session. Please find the links to these below:
