Week 2

Spring Term 1 - Week 2:

This week, the children have been learning about algebra in maths.  They have used manipulatives to support their understanding of how letters can be used to represent numbers.  The children particularly enjoyed a task where they substituted shapes for numbers, and had to work out what each shape represented based on a calculation.

In art, the children have begun their topic about architecture.  They have begun their study on Zaha Hadid, the famous architect who was given the name 'Queen of the Curves' due to her use of curves within her architectural designs.  The children created their own sculptures out of paper using curves and paper engineering techniques.

In history, the children have continued their learning about the Victorian era.  They found out information about Victorian inventors and innovators, learning the differences between these and the importance of Thomas Edison and James Watt during this time period.
