Week 3

Week 3

Phonics

In phonics this week we have learnt 4 new sounds - 3 digraphs ur, ow, oi and a trigraph, ear.

We also learnt 3 new tricky words - my, by and all.

We read lots of words - fur, curl, hurt, turn, down, now, cow, town, owl, coil, soil, boil, join, ear, beard, fear, near, tear.

Mrs Braddock has been awarding house points for every time we read at home - well done all, you've collected loads of points!

Other learning this week:

smiley In Maths, we've been learning about the composition of the numbers 4 and 5. We investigated different ways of making these numbers using bead strings. In our 'choosing time' we investigated ways to make the numbers using counters and 5 frames.

smileyIn English, we wrote sentences to describe how big and heavy the basket was on Handa's head - we thought of words like huge, massive, hefty, large, weighty. The children's writing is really brilliant - we've been focussing on remembering to use our phonics and a full stop at the end.

smileyLast Sunday it was Lunar New Year so we've been learning all about that! We heard the story of the Great Race and the year of the Zodiac. We know that we are either a dog or a rooster. Ask us to see if we can remember! We also had a go at writing our names in Chinese and making lanterns.

smileyIn music, we had the glocks out again! We recapped playing 'If You're Happy and You Know It' and we learnt to play the D note to Rock-a-Bye Baby. We're getting so confident!
