Welcome to Year 1: The Fantastic Foxes!

Welcome to Year 1, the home of the Fantastic Foxes. This page is where you can view all of the wonderful things we have been up to and find any useful documents, activities and letters.

Freddie Fox is very excited about our new class page and is looking forward to coming home with our Star of the Week!

Summer Term

Look at our super summer homework projects...

We have really enjoyed learning about plants. We grew our own bean plants and went looking for wild flowers and trees in the school grounds. Today we labelled parts of a plant and what they do.

We have really enjoyed our PE sessions with Rosie. Today, we took part in lots of different athletic events.

We had a great time at Peak Wildlife Park!!

Sonic hatched at about half past 11 (whilst we were outside). Just one more to go...

15th May: When we got to school this morning Snuggles had been born and was already dry and fluffy!

Some photos of Lucky and Waddles before they went to bed.

Waddles arrived at 3:30- just in time for home time!

Welcome to the world, Lucky! Born 14th May at 13:45.

Waiting very patiently!!

We have started our topic on ‘The Victorians’. We have learnt lots about her life. We had at go at typing. Here is some of our work...

We have been continuing our work on ‘Grandad’s Island’ by Benji Davies. We are really enjoying this story and have written some great sentences so far. We are adding to our sentence stacking display every week and Miss Pritchard has been so impressed with our amazing vocabulary!

This week, we have been looking at new sounds. We have been thinking about words containing ‘ow’ and ‘ou’.

Spring 2

Can you guess who is who?

Today we have been learning about measuring length and height. We have learnt about centimetres and metres and when it is appropriate to use rulers and metre sticks. We have practised using a ruler correctly by starting at zero and have measured a range of classroom objects.

We have been busy painting our self portraits this week. Stay tuned for a game of 'Guess Who'.

Thank you to Ava for baking us all a delicious 'Pudding Lane biscuit'! We are looking forward to sharing our homework projects in the last week of term. Please bring them to school on 7th April.

Thank you to Robert who came in to show us his coins from the 1600s.

RED NOSE DAY FUN. We are having a great time wearing red, designing our own noses and playing with our friends. Thank you for all of your kind donations!

We are so proud of our amazing animals puppets! We tried really hard with our sewing and decorating.

Spring 1

Congratulations to our team of cyclists who came in 3rd place (out of 18 schools) at the Early Racers competition!

Take a sneak peek at our fabulous self portraits! (Due to be painted next half term)

The Write Stuff

This term, we have been reading a story called Wombat Goes Walkabout by Michael Morpurgo. We have been using sentence stacking to rewrite our own version of the story. We have been using the FANTASTIC lenses and techniques such as repetition, similes and dialogue. Miss Pritchard is really pleased with our handwriting and use of different punctuation.

The Great Fire of London

We have been really enjoying learning about the Great Fire of London and can’t wait to continue this after the holidays! Here are some of the amazing fire collages that we have been busy making...

The Great Fire of London

We had a fabulous time riding the balance bikes on Thursday. Next week we are going to have a go at gliding. Our coaches said that we all had very good balance and control and that most of us are ready to ride bikes without stabilisers. It was great to hear that some of us can do this already!

Autumn 2

We’ve been really busy investigating with light this morning. We’ve read Elmer and made elephant shadow puppets. We also looked at what happened when we put filters on the torches. How amazing that putting two colours together made a new colour!

We have been talking about different 2D shapes and their properties. We invented our own shape snowmen and played with the shapes.

Our fantastic homework from the Autumn 2 term!

Our fabulous maps of London

New Topic!

This term our topic is: Why Can't a Meerkat Live at the North Pole?

We will also be learning about our body and animals in Science.

More details are included on our new topic letter 'Year 1 News' which can be found in the letters section.

Thank you so much for a wonderful Parents' Evening. It was great to meet you all and share what we have been up to and will be working towards this year!

Autumn 1

This has been our favourite book this week. We have been thinking all about the characters and setting of the story.

We have enjoyed welcoming our new Freddie Fox to the classroom. As you can see, he has already been well loved.

For our topic this week, we have been thinking about all of the different vehicles that we can use to get to new places. We had a fun afternoon designing/making our own vehicles using pens, Mobilo, Lego and shapes.

We have been learning about the seasons and went for an Autumn walk to look for signs of Autumn. We then made our own leaf bowls out of clay and painted them in Autumnal colours.

We have been busy making maps of Willington. They are amazing!! We even made Willington station.
