Wow - we can't believe that is the first half term of year 4 done! I've been so impressed with how well the children have settled and look forward to the rest of the year together.
This week in English, we began looking at how to use a dictionary to help us with spelling. We practised putting letters in alphabetical order, then we made it harder by using words that have the same first and second letters, therefore having to use the third letter to find the order it would come in. We had some races to find words and also began to look at the definitions of different words, focusing on how the word class could alter meanings.
In Science, we've carried on our learning of states of matter and have enjoyed exploring this further with a few experiments. We've been discovering more about and weighing gases, learning about melting and freezing points, and tested which temperature of water would melt chocolate the fastest. The children have a much better understanding of the properties and particles in solids, liquids and gases and were able to role play how the particles change when they are heated or cooled. It is fair to say that as a class, acting out gases is a firm favourite!
Finally, music was particularly exciting this week - the class got to have their first go on their new instruments! I could not believe how quickly all the children took to it and can not wait to see the improvements over the next half term.
Well done Badgers you have all been 'brilliant' this half term!
Have a fantastic, well deserved break. Miss Shepherd
