    Fri 24 Nov 2023

The WPS community is such a caring community. This week, the Year 5 and 6 school council reps, enjoyed spending their break and lunchtimes selling Pudsey merchandise to the children in school, to raise money for the Children in Need appeal. We raised £347.84 in total- this is an incredible amount!

    Well done!

  • Remembrance events

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

This morning, the children took part in two different remembrance events during the day.  The whole school took part in a two-minutes silence after breaktime to remember the fallen and veterans from previous and current conflicts.  Eight of the Year 6 pupils, along with Mrs Spencer Lovesey and Mr Rodgers, took part in an act of remembrance alongside the WI members at the village centre.  The children read their own remembrance poems and laid a wreath to commemorate those who had taken part in conflicts over the years.

  • International Day Of Democracy

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Today, we celebrated International Day of Democracy, by carrying out a democratic process in every classroom as the children voted for the new Class Council representatives. The children gave high quality speeches and presentations- some with incredible props and use of persuasive language. All children took part in the ballot process and made anonymous votes for the candidates they felt would be the most effective representative for their class.

Well done to everyone who put themselves forward - aspiring to be a school councillor shows courage and character - we are very proud of you.

  • Olympic Athlete Visit to WPS

    Wed 28 Jun 2023

    Encouraging ASPIRATION at Willington...

On Wednesday, we were thrilled to host GB Olympic swimmer, Joe Roebuck, who was ten times British Champion, double Commonwealth silver medalist, double European medalist and London 2012 Olympic semi-finalist. Amy Smith, also an Olympic swimmer, joined Joe on his visit which meant we were lucky to spend the afternoon with two Olympic athletes! Each class participated in a circuit session and enjoyed cheering each other on throughout the afternoon. We did mountain climbers, spotty dogs, push ups and star jumps… there were a lot of tired bodies and sweaty faces by the end of it! Year 6’s Lola and James did a fantastic job as ‘runners’ going to each class to give a 5 minute warning before they would be needed. Once every class completed their circuit with Joe and Amy, Joe held an inspiring whole school assembly before answering some of the children’s questions. He talked about the importance of practicing, persevering, and cheering yourself, and others on. The children were amazed by his swimming achievements and stories of his travels across the world.

“I loved doing the mountain climbers” Isla

“It was tiring doing the circuit but I had a really good time,” Saran Y4
